Classic Euro type with medium to high gain and a wide frequency response. Bright highs, and a clear bass character. Groove Tubes is one of those really cool companies where the people running it really care about what they are doing. Still run by founder Aspen Pittman, the author of "The Tube Amp Book" (which is well worth a read) we highly recommend any Groove Tube products. The 12AY-7 is also known as the 6072 and was used in early 50's Fender and Gibson amps, it is very similar to and was replaced in most cases by the 12AX7 valve which produces slightly more gain. It can be nice to try it in recent Marshall amps if you want to lower the gain levels a bit and get a bit wider frequency response. The new GT12AX7M is a reissue of the original Mullard 12AX7/ECC83 dual triode preamp tube. The new GT12AX7M is as close to an exact reissue of the original Mullard 12AX7/ECC83 dual triode preamp tube as we could develop. Some people feel this is one of the ultimate vintage 12AX7 tubes. |

Perhaps the most reliable of the currently made types, with slightly less power and a more aggressive edge when pushed into distortion. Great for Fender amps including Hot Rod series, Blues DeVille series, Pro Tube series and BF reissue series. The 12AT7 is durable and usually used as a phase splitter or driver tube (part of the power section). It is great for most US made amps, especially Fender. Great for Marshall in the driver stage for a cleaner, brighter tone (should be changed every time power tubes are replaced for best performance). The Groove Tubes is a dual-triode vacuum tube based on the highly sought after Mullard 12AX7, which went out of production in the late 60's. Its unique triple mica design reduces tube hum and microphonics, and gives performance stability under the most demanding conditions, such as high gain tube guitar amps sitting on 4x12 cabs. |
